TMJ-Jaw Problems

Common symptoms include:

  • Pain or tenderness in your face, jaw joint area, neck and shoulders, and in or around the ear when you chew, speak or open your mouth wide
  • Jaws that get “stuck” or “lock” in the open or closed position
  • Clicking, popping or grating sounds in the jaw joint when you open or close your mouth or chew
  • A tired feeling in your face
  • Trouble chewing or a sudden uncomfortable bite, as if the upper and lower teeth are not fitting together properly
  • Swelling on the side of your face

Nueromuscular Dentistry is the science that adheres to the principles of patho-physiology, anatomy, form and function. NMD objectively evaluates  the complex relationship between teeth, temporomandibular  joints and the masticatory muscles in order to achieve an occlusion that is based on the optimal relationship between the mandible and the scull-Neuromuscular Occlusion.

The goal is to relax the muscles controlling jaw position to  establish a true psychological rest position.

To put it simply, Neuromuscular Dentistry places the jaw into its optimal position, relieving the symptoms associated with TMJ. While traditional dentistry evaluates primarily the teeth, bones, and gums, neuromuscular dentistry works with the hard tissues and the soft tissues, muscles and nerves.

Did you know that keeping your mouth healthy can help prevent heart disease, aid in the control of diabetes and promote healthy pregnancies?

It’s true. Without routine dental care, plaque builds up on your teeth and gums and can lead to periodontal disease, making you more vulnerable to heart disease, clogged arteries and stroke. Gum disease and resulting infections can also cause blood sugar levels to rise, making the control of diabetes more difficult. Furthermore, studies have shown that pregnant women with gum disease may be seven times more likely to deliver prematurely

These facts say a mouthful, but the bottom line is that good oral care is imperative to overall wellness. There’s simply no question that a healthy mouth can lead to a long, healthy life and we are commited to helping you keep your smile for a lifetime.

This was easily the best dentist experience I have had. The staff is extremely nice. The building, exam rooms and waiting rooms resemble a high-end spa, more than a dental group. Most importantly, they fixed my cracked tooth and actually made it look better than it did before.Testimonial
